Water Polo Scoreboard Setup

The water polo scoreboard uses the score counter with a countdown timer with four 8-minute quarters. It tracks each team's score, current quarter, exclusion fouls, and timeouts. Each team receives up to 4 timeouts per game. The 30-second shot clock resets when possession changes.

Key Water Polo Rules

Scoring - 1 point per goal. The ball must fully cross the goal line between the posts. Goals can be scored with any part of the body except a clenched fist (only the goalkeeper is allowed to punch ball).
Exclusion Fouls - A major foul results in a 20-second exclusion (the player leaves the pool). After 3 exclusion fouls, a player is excluded for the rest of the game with a substitute allowed.
Penalty Throw - Awarded for fouls that prevent a probable goal inside the 6-metre area, similarly to football. Taken from the 5-metre line with only the goalkeeper defending.
Ball Handling - Only the goalkeeper may use two hands on the ball 🧤⚽🧤 Field players must handle the ball with one hand at a time. Players cannot hold the ball underwater when tackled.

Run the Board From the Admin Preview

The admin page shows a live preview of the scoreboard with click controls baked into every active section, so a full game can be driven from the preview alone, without going back to the side panel.

Timer - Click the clock on the board to start or stop. The dedicated Start / Pause buttons in the side panel still work for the same actions.
Score - Left-click a team's score to add one. Right-click the same number to subtract one.
Period - Click the period indicator to advance to the next quarter, half or set.
Possession - Click the possession arrow to cycle between none, home and visitor.
Fouls and Timeouts - Left-click to add one, right-click to remove one.
Shot Clock - Left-click resets to the full duration (24 by default), right-click resets to the short value (14 by default).

Anything that reacts to a click turns the cursor into a pointer and brightens on hover, so the interactive zones are obvious without trial and error. Press the Full Screen button on the admin page to hide every panel except the board itself. A small floating toolbar stays pinned at the bottom of the screen with a fullscreen toggle marked F11, zoom out, a reset-zoom button showing the current percentage and the Ctrl -/+ hint, zoom in, and a close button. The same laptop now doubles as the venue display while the operator keeps driving the game through the preview clicks. The site logo at the top left always links back to the home page, so you can jump between match, tournament or standings tools without losing your place.

FAQ

Does it track exclusion fouls?

Use the fouls counter to log each exclusion per team. For the 20-second timer, run a separate stopwatch on deck. The eliminated player returns when the timer ends or the opponent scores.

Does the shot clock reset to 20 on offensive rebounds?

Yes, World Aquatics changed the shot clock in 2019 from a single 30-second value to 30 / 20: 30 seconds for new possession, 20 seconds after a corner throw or rebound from the goalkeeper. For a dedicated big-digit display use the basketball shot clock with the duration set to 30.

Can I run overtime?

Yes. When tied at full time, run two 3-minute periods of extra time. If still tied, go to a penalty shootout from the 5-metre line.

Configure the water polo score counter. For an indoor court alternative, try the similar handball scoreboard; for the shot clock on a side display, use the basketball shot clock; for a knockout, the tournament bracket.
