Basic Match Scoreboard With Live Broadcast

A match scoreboard tracks the score between two players or doubles teams across multiple sets. Most racquet and paddle sports , like table tennis, badminton, squash, volleyball, pickleball all share the same set-match structure: rallies score points, points stack into sets, and the winner is the first to take a majority of sets in a best-of series. This board can be configured to whichever combination of points-per-set and sets-per-match a sport uses. For background on rally-scoring formats, the Wikipedia racquet sport overview is a good starting point.

Scoreboard Setup

Name the two players (or pairs), pick the points-to-win-a-set, the best-of-N format, and whether players must win by two clear points. The board displays the current set score side-by-side with the running tally of complted sets and ends the match automatically when one player reaches the majority - 2 of 3, 3 of 5, 4 of 7. The first-serve indicator can be set on creation. A live link can be opened on a TV next to the table or shared with viewers anywhere.

🎾πŸ₯ŽTennis uses a separate scoreboard, because this basic match score counter cannot be adapted properly to tennis scoring. Tennis has its own 0 - 15 - 30 - 40 - Ad scoring system and requires tiebreak support.

Common Sport Formats

Table Tennis - Best of 5 or 7 sets to 11, must win by 2. The ITTF moved from 21-point sets to 11-point sets in September 2001 to make games shorter and more TV-friendly. Service alternates every 2 points, and every 1 point at deuce (10-10).
Badminton - Best of 3 sets to 21, must win by 2 with a hard cap at 30. The BWF adopted rally scoring on 6 May 2006, replacing the older 15-point service-only system. The serving side is whoever won the previous rally.
Squash - PARS scoring: best of 5 sets to 11, must win by 2. Replaced the older "hand-out" English scoring (only the server could score) and is used across the PSA World Tour and most national leagues.
Volleyball - Best of 5 sets to 25, must win by 2; the deciding fifth set is played to 15. Indoor and beach volleyball both use rally scoring, adopted by the FIVB in 1999 to standardise match length.
Pickleball - Traditional games to 11, win by 2, best of 3. Tournament games are sometimes played to 15 or 21. Rally scoring has been adopted by the PPA and MLP for professional play since 2023.
Custom Format - For paddle, racquetball, padel, beach tennis, or any house rules variant. Set the points-to-win, the best-of-N, and whether to require a 2-point margin, and the same scoreboard works for any rally-scored format.

Rules at a Glance

Win-By-Two - Most modern formats require a 2-point margin to win a set. With must win by 2 enabled, reaching the target score does not finish the set if the opponent is one point behind.
Sudden Death - Some leagues (a handful of table tennis franchises and most pickleball tournaments before 2023) use a sudden-death point at the cap. Disable must win by 2 to end the set on the first player to reach the target.
Service Switching - Service rules vary: every 2 points (table tennis), every other point (squash hand-out), or after every rally (badminton, pickleball). The serve indicator can be flipped manually if your sport switches at custom intervals.
Side Change - Many sports change ends after each set, and at the midpoint of the deciding set. Keep a quick note of the score at every changeover for tournament records and rest breaks.

Run the Board From the Admin Preview

The admin page shows a live preview of the match scoreboard with click controls baked in, so a full match can be scored from the preview alone:

Player Name - Left-click the player's name on the board to award a point. Right-click the same name to subtract one.
Serve Dot - Click the serve indicator next to the serving player to toggle service between the two sides.
Set and Points - Each set column and the current points cell is an editable input. Click a number to type a new value directly into the cell.

Anything that reacts to a click brightens on hover, so the interactive zones stand out. Press the Full Screen button on the admin page to hide every panel except the board itself. A small floating toolbar stays pinned at the bottom of the screen with a fullscreen toggle marked F11, zoom out, a reset-zoom button showing the current percentage and the Ctrl -/+ hint, zoom in, and a close button. The same laptop now doubles as the venue display while the operator keeps driving the match through the preview clicks. The site logo at the top left always links back to the home page, so you can jump between tournament, standings or leaderboard tools without losing your place.

FAQ

Can I run any rally-scored sport with this board?

Yes. Set the points/set, the best-of-N, and toggle must-win-by-2. The same scoreboard handles table tennis, badminton, squash, volleyball, pickleball, padel, racquetball or any house-rules format.

Does the serve indicator flip automatically?

It flips on the cadence you select for the sport. You can also toggle it manually at any time, which is handy for doubles or unusual service rotations.

Can spectators watch the score in real time?

Yes. Every match has a public live URL. Open it on a TV next to the table or share it with viewers anywhere - updates appear within milliseconds.
