How Single-Elimination Brackets Work

Round of 16 - Sixteen teams play eight matches. Winners advance to the quarterfinals; losers are eliminated from the tournament bracket.

Quarterfinals - Eight teams, four matches. The winning half moves on to the semifinals of the playoff bracket.
