Terms and Conditions
By using ScoreCounter ("the service") you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service. These terms work together with the Privacy Policy, which explains how personal data is processed under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK GDPR.
1. What ScoreCounter is
ScoreCounter is a free, browser-based scoreboard tool. You can create scoreboards for various sports, control the game in an admin link and share a live view link with spectators. There are no account creation, no registration, and no payment. The service is provided by Ruwix Services SRL (ruwix.ro), a company registered in Romania. You can read more about the project and the team on the About page. Contact details are in section 15.
2. Who can use it
Anyone may use the service. You are responsible for the content you enter (team names, titles, custom CSS, etc.) and for how you share the links you receive. If you create scoreboards on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are authorised to do so.
The service is not directed at children under 16 (or under the digital-consent age set by your Member State, which can be as low as 13). See section 13 of the Privacy Policy.
3. Access model
- Guest (live view): anyone who has the live URL (e.g.
.../live/<id>) can view the scoreboard in real time. Live URLs are not secret - they are meant to be shared with spectators. - Admin (edit): when you create a scoreboard, you receive an admin URL containing an edit key (e.g.
.../admin/<id>?editkey=<key>). Anyone who holds this URL can change the score, timer, settings, or delete the scoreboard. Treat the admin URL as a password and share it only with people you trust to operate the scoreboard.
If you lose the admin URL there is no recovery: the edit key is stored only as a SHA-256 hash and there is no email-based reset.
Scoreboard creation is rate-limited so the free service stays fast and available for everyone. Each visitor may create up to 10 scoreboards per hour; viewing existing scoreboards is never limited.
The operator may issue an API key that raises this hourly limit for a particular user, which may be offered as a paid arrangement. An API key is a credential tied to the arrangement under which it was issued: keep it secret, use it only for your own scoreboard creation, and do not resell or share it. The operator may set, change, suspend or revoke a key and its limit at any time, including where a key is shared, misused, used to disrupt the service, or where any agreed payment is not made. Raising the limit does not change any other term of this agreement, and the underlying scoreboard service remains free to use.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to use ScoreCounter to:
- Display content that is unlawful, defamatory, harassing, threatening, hateful, obscene, or that infringes anyone's rights (including intellectual property, privacy or publicity rights).
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to other users' scoreboards, the server, or the database.
- Disrupt the service, for example through automated abuse, scraping at scale, or denial-of-service attempts.
- Inject custom CSS, scripts or content intended to harm, mislead or impersonate.
- Use the service in any way that violates applicable law in your jurisdiction.
The operator may remove any scoreboard or block access to the service at its sole discretion in response to a credible report of misuse.
5. User content and personal data of others
You retain whatever rights you have in the content you enter. By submitting content to the service, you grant the operator a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display and process that content solely for the purpose of running the service for you.
If you enter personal data about other people - for example real player names, photos via custom CSS background images, or any other identifying information - you confirm that you have a lawful basis under Article 6 GDPR (and Article 9 where applicable) to do so, and that the people concerned are aware that their data will appear on a publicly accessible scoreboard. The operator processes that data on your behalf for the limited purpose of rendering the scoreboard you created and is not responsible for content posted by you.
You are responsible for handling any data subject requests addressed to you about the content you entered. Where the operator receives such a request directly and can identify the relevant scoreboard, the operator will act on it under section 14 of the Privacy Policy.
6. Intellectual property
The ScoreCounter name, logo, source code, layout, design and original content are the property of the operator and protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. The service is provided for you to use under these terms; nothing in these terms transfers ownership.
7. Privacy
Use of the service is also subject to the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms. The Privacy Policy explains what personal data is collected, on what legal basis, how long it is kept, and how to exercise your rights under the GDPR.
8. Data retention
Scoreboards are intended for short-lived use. A nightly cleanup deletes scoreboards that have not been opened for 7 days. Do not rely on ScoreCounter for long-term archival of match data - export or screenshot anything you need to keep. Further detail is in section 9 of the Privacy Policy.
9. No warranty
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. The operator does not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of data loss.
Nothing in these terms limits any non-excludable consumer rights you may have under the law of your country of residence (for example, under EU Directive 2019/771 on the sale of goods or EU Directive 2019/770 on digital content and services).
10. Limitation of liability
ScoreCounter is provided as a free tool for convenience. You use the service at your own risk. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operator of ScoreCounter is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, business, goodwill, match results, tournament records, or other information arising from or related to your use of the service.
The operator does not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that scoreboard data will always be available. Do not rely on ScoreCounter as the only official record of a match, tournament, competition, or event.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, intentional misconduct, or gross negligence.
11. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the operator from any third-party claim, demand or damages (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of content you submitted to the service or your breach of these terms or of applicable law.
12. Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the laws of Romania, without regard to its conflict of laws principles. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these terms or the use of the service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent Romanian courts, except where mandatory consumer protection laws of your country of residence grant you the right to bring proceedings in your own courts.
If you are a consumer resident in the EU/EEA, the European Commission provides an Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr. Ruwix Services SRL is not obliged to participate in alternative dispute resolution proceedings and prefers to resolve concerns directly.
13. Severability and entire agreement
If any provision of these terms is held invalid or unenforceable by a competent court, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect, and the invalid provision shall be replaced by an enforceable provision that comes closest to the parties' original intention.
These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and the operator with respect to the service and supersede any prior agreements.
14. Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated from time to time. The "Last updated" date in the header reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be highlighted at the top of this page. Continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
